Beatlemaniac A Music Parody
This space is reserved for the play “Beatlemanic,” presented by Curtain Time Players on February 22, 23, and 24, 2024. It is an original work written and directed by Bob Colucci of Cypress Lakes Village and produced by Sandie Wiegert. The play chronicles the life of a girl named Peggy Sue from 1964 to the present day, showcasing her journey with Beatles music. However, some members of Curtain Time Players have raised concerns about potential copyright infringements regarding the musical excerpts used in the play, which are currently owned by Sony.
A parody featuring a girl obsessed with the Beatles is safeguarded under the parody provision of copyright law. Furthermore, Cypress Lake Village’s annual payment for music rights legally permits us to use the music and publish the video; otherwise, music would not be allowed on this site. The essence of copyright law is to prevent unauthorized downloading of songs for personal collections. Platforms that could potentially profit from streaming music without proper licensing include Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo, Reddit, X, and others. Consequently, new laws have been enacted to target these platforms, which may shut down videos or entire sites if they violate copyright regulations. This ensures that Cypress Lakes Village remains free from litigation, but any content found in violation may be requested for removal.
Content creators on these platforms know these regulations and have adapted using only short clips of the original songs or parodies, as Cypress Lakes Village has done. The video will be posted once the relevant authorities fully grasp the laws. In the meantime, I have shared a video by MC Lars, produced for my company, Network for Music and Musycal, LLC, based in Hollywood, California, during our negotiations of the streaming laws in 2004. These companies were managed by music artists such as Tony Montana of Whitesnake, Steve Miller from the Steve Miller Band, the retired president of Capitol Records, the chief counsel for many Southern California music artists (including the Eagles), the chief animator of Sony Productions, and myself. Please enjoy this video.
